DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) - Dinwiddie residents now have a better system to warn them before or during an emergency but you have to go online and sign-up.

The county just unveiled its new first call service where you can sign-up for a phone call, text message or even an email that will warn you when there's an emergency.

The new service is in an effort to enhance the county's existing notification system.

Through text messages, emails, and social media notifications, Dinwiddie County residents and businesses can receive information about severe weather warnings, emergency instructions, and local community matters and events.

The online sign-up, which can be accessed here, will allow users to be able to select how they will be notified, and what type of notifications they will receive.

Dinwiddie County officials confirmed that a test call of the service is scheduled for Thursday, September 18, 2014.
